Shortblog - Food & Feelings

Image
When a friend comes over because she’s sad and your food makes her happy. The expressions while eating, the questions, the curiosity you can feed. The smiles and laughs of joy after diner. The thankfulness and screams of joy you receive after surprising someone with blue, sweet/sour beer. This is why my voyage of flavor is important to me. Memories I never want to forget, this is why I started writing. Yarrrrrr! Shivver me Timber! Sit down lassis & lads, welcome on board the Cap has a story to tell. 'Twas a long time ago, way back in history, I believe it was early 2020. The door of the shop blew open. Lightning across the sky, thunder rolling by, rain poured from heavens and in that door, stood a man. A man I have never seen before, and still couldn't see... for he was rather small... and my counter blocked the view. All I could see was that he was a grey haired man. *FLASH* *RUMBLE* "Hello." Said the man. "Hello, me and my friends have a brewery and we would like to know if you want to sell our beer." He sounded a bit shy, but we are always open for new beer and happy to taste to see if we can work with it, so I asked him for a taster.  "I didnt bring you any..." the man responded. I laughed a little and asked him to bring me a taster later.  And so he did. Being of excellent quality, I happily agreed and soon we sold the bottles in our lit

Ahoy matey! Thanks for coming on board! *read with the voice of an old pirate with 2 wooden legs and an owl on his shoulder* Cooking is fantastic. Cooking is a creative way to find peace during a busy day or period, but that is personal, obviously. During the process, for example, my vessel drifts away in as many directions as there are possibilities to work with the recipe that is in the making. For that reason I always tell others to let that vessel flow in the direction it's heading. Keep tasting between every step and let every time you taste count as a fresh wind in your sail, that might redirect you to a new destination. It's very important for me to keep triggering my creativity and for that reason, I like to cook something else every single time. So passed week I've been thinking about how to step up that game and came up with a fantastic plan: I'm going to try and find recipes from "forgotten"countries, or at least countries that I have not heard from

Ahoy! All on board! It's Captain Forkbeerd speaking, here! Welcome on board of the Drifter, the vessel that might bring us anywhere we want to go, anywhere we don't want to go and anywhere we have never heard of! My voyage started a couple of years ago, when I got a new job that changed not only my life, but also my view on flavor. How? Grab your favorite drink, fix a snack, and take a seat, I'll tell ya! Couple of years ago I was desperately looking for a job, running low on money, living with my parents in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. Boo-hoo! I still granted myself the luxury of doing stuff I enjoyed and made fun, both for free and some stuff that, well, isn't exactly free. So I ended up on a lovely summerday in Haarlem on the terrace of this little bar. Uiltje bar that is. A bar that feels like a living room, BUT with 30 draughts with craftbeer from all over the world! Turns out, these bastards have their own brewery as well! Captain here has always liked his booze
